2016 ROCK & ROLL RUMBLE Long viewed as the World Series of Boston rock, the Rumble rolls out its preliminary-round shows on Sunday night, pitching heated battles among four worthy acts every night except for Wednesday. (Semifinals will be held April 15 and 16, and the grand finale arrives on April 22.) April 3-5 and 7-9, 8 p.m. $15, advance $10. ONCE Lounge & Ballroom, Somerville.  617-285-0167, www.onceballroom.com

TAU CROSS Forget Axl N' Angus, here's a supergroup you'll actually want to hear: Rob "The Baron" Miller, singer and bassist for iconic English crust crew Amebix, joined by Voivod drummer Michel "Away" Langevin and guitarists John Misery (Misery) and Andy Lefton (War//Plague). The group's self-titled 2015 debut featured riff-rock anthems delivered with seasoned swagger and Miller's signature rasp. April 4, 8 p.m. $15, advance $13. Middle East Upstairs, Cambridge.  617-864-3278, www.mideastclub.com

GOGOL BORDELLO Say you're the founder and vocalist of a notoriously party-happy Eastern European roots-punk combo and one of your most durable albums, "Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike" (1995), turns 10. What do you do? If you're Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hütz, you pack up the band, hit the road, and celebrate with as many friends as possible. April 4 and 5, 7 p.m. $35. Paradise Rock Club. 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com
